Meet in Barstow. Explore the cultural icons left behind by those who had a love affair with desert highways. Field sessions, centered along old Route 66, east of Barstow, will include sand dunes, scenic canyons and the detritus of failed human incursions in the harsh, desert environment. Cost: $280; includes accommodations. Field sessions begin Friday afternoon, in Barstow, with a tour of the Route 66 Museum and an evening photo shoot of the desert city's neon signs. We'll stay Friday night at Route 66 Motel in Barstow and Saturday night at Roy's motel and cafe, in remote Amboy.
